How to Measure a Horse Breast Collar

The breast collar is an important piece of equipment for riders of all disciplines. The breast collar is designed to prevent the saddle from sliding back and creating an unsafe situation. But the breast collar cannot perform properly if it is not the right size for the horse. Taking the time to measure the breast collar will help ensure that it fits your horse properly.

• Measuring tape

Instructions

1. Remove the breast collar from the saddle and place it on a flat surface. Spread the breast collar out so that it is lying flat.

2. Locate the adjustable straps on each end of the breast collar. Place your measuring tape at the point where the strap meets the breast collar itself.

3. Take the measuring tape from that point to the same point on the other end of the breast collar. Read the measuring tape to get the size of the breast collar.
