Measure the lawn you want to fertilize. You need to determine its approximate square footage by multiplying its length by its width.
-
2
Place 1 lb. of sugar in a seed spreader for every 300 square feet of space you need to cover, or place 10 lbs. of dry molasses for every 500 square feet of space you need to cover.

3
Sprinkle evenly across the lawn by pushing the seed spreader up and down the lawn. If you have any sugar or molasses left, you can then push the spreader over the lawn again, but this time from side to side.

Tips & Warnings
Dry molasses is not for kitchen use. It is an agricultural product comprising a grain carrier, like soy meal, that has been sprayed with liquid molasses.
To avoid a sticky mess, apply when the grass is dry.
Do not exceed the recommended dry molasses dosage as too much molasses can result in turning the fertilizer in to a weed killer.
This technique may attract ants and other insects.
