1
Till the soil in an area of your garden that receives six to eight hours of sunlight each day. Mix in 1 inch of compost or manure to help the soil stay moist but not soaked, as standing water can damage the roots.
-
2
Sow rapunzel seeds 1 ½ to 2 inches deep in the soil, two to four weeks before the final predicted frost of the year in early spring. The intense freezing soil will help the seeds germinate. Spread seeds 6 to 8 inches apart.
-
-
3
Water the seeds, as well as the newly growing plants, whenever the top 1 to 2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch. Valerianella grows best in moist soil.
-
4
Eliminate any weeds that crop up near the planting area. These weeds can choke out the Valerianella plant. With no competition from weeds and proper water and sunlight, the leaves should be ready from consumption by late spring or early summer.
