How to Make a Classroom Diagram
Developing a classroom diagram will assist you in providing your students with an area they can feel comfortable in. A diagram allows you to gain another perspective of the room, and in turn, work with different placements to ensure proper functioning and flow. Additionally, a diagram can provide you with a seating chart which, when provided to the students, can help them to remember their assigned seats. Once you have completed the initial steps in creating a diagram, editing and working with different layouts is quite simple.

1
Write down the dimensions of the room and its contents in terms of feet and inches. Contents include all of the furniture such as, the teacher desk(s), table(s), rug(s), students desks and anything else that takes up a substantial amount of space in the room.
-
2
Get a piece of graph paper. You will need to scale down your measurements so your diagram will fit on one piece of paper. The most common scale used is 1/4 in = 1 ft. Therefore, 1/4 inch of paper equals 1 foot of measurement of actual measurement.

3
Draw an outline of the room. Go on to indicate where the windows, doors, closets and permanent structures are. Next place the furniture as it corresponds to the actual placement in the room.
-
4
Create various diagrams to help determine the best environment for you and your class. Whether you choose the traditional placement of desks where the students all face forward, or a U-shaped assembly of the students desks. Choose the diagram that best suites your teaching style.
-
5
Finalize your diagram by using a computer aided program. In doing this, you create a professional looking diagram that can also be easily edited, should you choose to re-organize the room.
