How to Make Concrete Mortar
Cement mortar, sometimes also known as concrete mortar, comes from a mix of cement, sand and lime. This kind of mixture lacks only gravel to become concrete and you may use it in almost any application that requires a sturdy adhesive to hold two structures, such as bricks, together. Shovel two parts cement and one part builder's lime into a wheelbarrow. Mix the two together to create the mortar cement.

Mix one part mortar cement from the previous step with three parts sand. Keep the mix dry.

Start adding water in very small amounts and continue mixing. Do not slow down, as mortar cures very quickly when it comes in contact with water. Work the water in until the mortar assumes the consistency of toothpaste. One standard sack of cement mixed with 18 to 20 shovels of sand usually requires about 5 gallons of water.
