How to Troubleshoot Time Warner Digital Cable

Time Warner is one of the largest cable providers in the United States, with service spanning the country. Occasionally an issue may arise that you need to troubleshoot and fix in order for the cable signal to play properly on your TV. There are some easy troubleshooting steps to take before calling Time Warner for help.

Instructions

1. Check the cable connections from the TV to the cable box and from the cable box to the wall cable outlet. Make sure all the cables are inserted completely into the connection ports; loose connections can cause problems with audio and video signals.

2. Turn off the cable box, disconnect it from the power outlet and leave it off for a few minutes. This performs a hard reset, which should correct internal errors. Turn the cable box back on.

3. Turn the cable box off -- you can leave it plugged in this time -- for five minutes or more. If Time Warner is performing a system update, the box is not going to function. There isn't anything you can do but wait this out, but usually it only takes five to ten minutes to complete.

4. Disconnect the cable box from your television and hook it back up using a different video port -- for example, switch from an RCA to component video cable. If the video appears back on the TV, you know you have a problem with either the video connection port on your TV or the output port on your receiver.

5. Contact Time Warner cable and describe the problem.
