How to Check a DSL Address

If you're considering upgrading from dial-up Internet service to DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) Internet service, the first thing you'll need to do is check for available DSL at the address from which you'll be connecting. DSL is not available in all areas due to the DSL signal only being able to transmit a maximum of 18,000 feet from the local phone switch point. Fortunately, you can check to see if DSL is available at your address by inputting your phone number, address, or zip code into one of several DSL availability websites.

Instructions

  1. DSL Availability

    • 1

      Click the "DSL Availability" link.

    • 2

Type your phone number into the "Phone" text field.

    • 3

Type your email address into the "Email" text field.

    • 4

Click the "Quality Me" button to show a list of DSL plans and service providers available for the address and phone number you entered in Step 2.

    DSL by Zip

    • 5

Click the "DSL by Zip" link.

    • 8

Click the option for dynamic or static IP address that best fits your DSL service needs, or click "Static & Dynamic plans" to display both types of DSL service plan. The DSL service plans available in your zip code area will be listed in the center of the screen, updating as you select your options.

Click the "CNET Internet Access" link.
