How to Add a Username & Password to an FTP Site Accessed With a Browser
FTP, or File Transfer Protocol, is widely used on the Internet for uploading and downloading files to and from Web pages. FTP is an unsecured protocol, usually configured to allow anonymous connections via credentials sent to the FTP server in clear text. To connect to an FTP server that requires authentication using a Web browser, use the FTP authentication syntax in the address bar of your browser to connect.
Things You'll Need
- Microsoft Windows 7 computer with a Web browser
- URL to an FTP site that requires basic authentication
- Credentials of an account with permissions to access the FTP site

Click the "Start" button. Click "Search" and enter "iexplore" in the "Search" box. Press the "Enter" key.

Type "ftp://username:password@FTP_URL/directory" into the Web address bar of the Internet Explorer window. Replace "username" with the username of an account that has permissions to access the FTP server; replace "password" with the password of the account that has permissions to access the FTP server. Replace "FTP_URL/directory" with the URL and directory path you wish to access.

Press the "Enter" key and the Web browser will automatically authenticate and connect to the FTP site that requires authentication.
