How to Remove the Paint From Chrome Rims
Paint can be found on some chrome rims for various reason. The rims may have been painted to protect the chrome. It is possible that the chrome beneath the layers of paint is still intact and the rims can be restored to their original shine and beauty. Removing the paint from the rims is not difficult and can be completed with common household chemicals, which will not damage the chrome.
Things You'll Need
- Paint thinner, oven cleaner or multipurpose cleaner
- Large trash bag
- Cloth rags
- Nylon scrubber
Instructions

1
Apply a generous layer of paint stripper, or oven cleaner, to the entire surface of the rim. A multipurpose cleaner will work, as well.
-
2
Insert the rim into a large trash bag. Close the bag and tie it tight. Ensure the bag has no rips or tears in it. The bag needs a tight seal to allow the chemicals to work on removing the paint, which will require less manual work to remove the paint. Let the bag sit overnight.

3
Move the bag to a well-ventilated area. Remove the rim from the bag.
-
4
