Instructions for Tissue Paper Stained Glass

Stained glass is a decorative way to add a pop of colored light to any room, but it can also be costly. Make your own stained glass craft that imitates the real thing at a fraction of the cost using tissue paper. Tissue paper stained glass is a simple enough craft that even children can create it. Make a different piece of tissue paper stained glass for each holiday or season.

Things You'll Need

• Tissue paper in a variety of colors
• Scissors
• Clear contact paper
• 2 pieces of black construction paper
• Double-sided tape

Instructions

1. Cut your pieces of tissue paper into the different shapes you want to use for your stained glass window. You might cut hearts, stars, circles, ovals, rectangles, triangles or squares.

2. Peel the backing paper from one of your pieces of contact paper and lay the paper sticky side up on your work surface. Place the different shapes of tissue paper onto the contact paper carefully so they don't wrinkle. Cover the entire surface of the contact paper or only part of it depending on what kind of look you want to create. Leave a 1-inch border of contact paper uncovered.

3. Place your second piece of contact paper directly over the first and press the two together, especially along the 1-inch border you left clear on the first piece.

4. Cut your two pieces of black construction paper into a shape that takes up most of the paper. Cut both pieces at the same time so the two shapes are identical. Cut out the center of the shapes to create two identical frames.

5. Use double-sided tape to adhere one construction-paper frame to each side of the stained-glass contact paper piece so they are lined up when you hold the piece up to the light.

6. Trim the excess contact paper from around the edges of the construction paper frame to complete your stained glass piece.

Tips & Warnings

• Hang your stained glass craft up in front of a window so the sunlight can filter through it.
