How to Make Your Number Private thumbnail
Protect your privacy by blocking your phone number.

There are many reasons to keep your cell phone number private when making calls. Aside from not wishing the recipient of the call to know your identity, you may also want to keep your number blocked when phoning companies so the number doesn't get collected and put on a contact list. To set your cell phone number to blocked while making calls, just choose the option you want.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide if you want to block your phone number for just one phone call or for all calls. If there's one company or person you don't want to have your number, dial *67 before entering the phone number. Your number will appear under private or restricted when you call. Using *67 will work only for that call; redial *67 every time you want to keep your call private.

Consider having your phone number listed as private on all calls you make. Remember that many people will not answer calls that show up as blocked or restricted.

    • 3

Dial *82 before dialing the number you want to call. *82 works as *67 does except that *82 will keep your number listed as private on all subsequent calls. To take the privacy block off your phone, dial *82 again.

Select ''Settings" under the menu on your cell phone. Then select "Options." Pick "Hide Number" to keep your number private during phone calls. Menu terms may very slightly among phones. You may need to consult your cell phone manual to walk you through the process.

Contact your service provider and ask that your calls be private. Ask about additional fees this might generate and about how to negate your request if you change your mind.
