Engine air filters clean air going to the throttle body, but cabin air filters clean air going to the passenger cab.

In-cab passenger air filters (more commonly referred to as cabin air filters) were used on the Chevy truck series from 1999 to 2002. Because of a major interior instrument panel redesign in the 2003 and later models, the cabin air filters were dropped by GM. While they provide a specific and efficient service to the performance of the HVAC units and prevent harmful particulates from entering the passenger cab, these filters were not used in earlier models on many vehicles. Changing a cabin air filter is a relatively easy task for a DIY mechanic.

Insert the first filter into the evaporative housing unit and then slide it all the way back into place (it doesn't matter which filter, because they're both the same size).
