A shed is a useful storage area for equipment, tools and other necessary items. Whether you need to store items that you only get out once a year, need a place for garden tools or want somewhere to work on wood projects, you should be able to find a type of shed that meets your needs. Determine how much you are able to spend on the shed. This will affect the size of the shed you can purchase or build as well as what material makes it up.

Choose the material for your shed. Think about how well the material will withstand the weather, how it blends in with the surroundings, cost the various choices and if there are any neighborhood restrictions you need to follow. Some options include metal, various types of wood slats and plastic.

Look at the objects that need to fit into the shed and make decisions about interior needs. Include power outlets for lights or possible electrical tools if you are going to be working in the shed. Large items such as a lawn mower will need enough floor space for you to get it in and out as well as walk around it. Add shelves and peg boards to hang things up properly.
