How to Calculate Critical Hits for WoW
Spells and melee attacks in "World of Warcraft" have a random chance of being stronger than normal. This is referred to as a "critical strike." Critical melee attacks exact double the normal base damage. Critical spells cast 1.5 times the normal amount of damage or healing. The critical strike percentage is based on the class, primary statistics and secondary statistics of the player. Increasing the critical strike percentage is most commonly done by players who are focused on increasing the amount of damage they can deal over time.

Melee Critical Strike
-
1
Start with five. This is the base melee critical strike chance for all characters.
-
2
Divide your "Agility" by the class constant. Add this to the five from Step 1. The class constant for Mage and Warlock is 51. The constant for Paladin and Priest is 52. The constant for Death Knight and Warrior is 62.5. The constant for Druid, Hunter, Rogue and Shaman is 83.3.
-
-
3
Divide your Critical Strike Rating stat by 45.91. Add this number to the value from Step 2.
-
4
Add one to the value from Step 3 if you are a Dwarf using a gun or a Troll using a bow or thrown weapons. These two races get a racial bonus to critical strikes when using these weapons.
-
5
Add any talent bonuses to the critical strike percentage if the situation applies. For example, the Rogue's Improved Ambush talent only works if the Ambush ability causes critical strikes. It does not apply to basic attacks or other Rogue skills.
Spell Critical Strike
-
6
Divide your Intelligence stat by 166.6667.
-
7
Divide your Spell Critical Rating stat by 45.91. Add this value to the number from Step 1.
-
8
Add the class constant to the value from Step 2. Druid has a spell critical class constant of 1.85. The constant for Hunter is 3.6. The constant for Mage is 0.91. The constant for Paladin is 3.336. The constant for Priest is 1.24. The constant for Shaman is 2.2. The constant for Warlock is 1.701.
-
9
Add the bonuses from any relevant talents to the value from Step 3. Most of these bonuses are situational, so you need to be sure you are not adding values that do not apply. For example, the bonus from the Mage's Piercing Ice talent always applies. The bonus from the Mage's Shatter critical bonus only applies when the target of the spell has the frozen status condition.

Tips & Warnings
Additional damage is occasionally not the only benefit of performing a critical strike. Some classes have talent selections that add additional bonuses when a critical strike occurs. For example, the Paladin Infusion of Light talent reduces your casting time the next time you cast the Holy Light or Divine Light any time you critical strike with Holy Light.
Read the talent description carefully to make sure it actually raises critical or spell critical percentage. Some talents are a bit misleading. For example, the Rogue's Lethality only raises the amount of damage a critical strike causes, but has no effect on how often those critical occur.
