How to Locate a Fuel Filter on a Cadillac Escalade
by Marion CobrettiA clogged fuel filter prevents fuel from reaching the engine. If you suspect a problem, it's best to locate and replace the filter as soon as possible. General Motors recommends that you replace the fuel filter every 60,000 miles in any case.
Step 1
Set a wheel block in front of both of your Escalade’s front tires. Kick both wheel blocks firmly into place beneath the tires.
Step 2
Raise the rear left corner of your Escalade with a hydraulic jack. Place a jack stand forward of the gas tank beneath the frame rail. Raise the support arm on the jack stand to equal the truck’s current height. Lower your hydraulic jack slightly to allow the jack stand to support 50 percent of the truck’s weight.
Step 3
Slide under your Escalade from the rear bumper, on the driver’s side. Locate your fuel filter on the inner side of the frame rail. It sits one foot from the gas tank, toward the engine. Your Escalade’s fuel filter has two fuel lines connected to it and it looks like an over-sized “D” battery. The filter should have writing on it as well as a large black arrow pointing toward the radiator.
Tips
- Relieve the fuel pressure before you attempt to remove the filter or gas will come rushing out of the fuel tank. Disconnect the negative cable from your Escalade’s battery with a socket wrench. Loosen the nuts that hold each of the fuel lines onto the filter with an adjustable wrench. When you re-install the new fuel filter in your Escalade, make sure that the arrow on the filter points to the radiator.
