Scratches on prescription glasses are annoying and can interfere with vision. Some scratches are on the protective coating rather than on the actual glasses, and there are methods that repair the glasses. Among the available methods are scratch repair kits available at optometrists offices and a product called Armour Etch, which is a chemical product for prescription glasses.

Apply the polish from the glass scratch repair kit to the glasses. Gently rub the polish into the glass lenses with the soft cloth that comes in the kit. Buff the glasses until the polish is cleared.

Look at the glasses and determine if they still have scratches. No further methods of scratch removal are necessary if there are no more scratches. Put gloves on if there are still scratches.

Add Armour Etch to a cotton ball. Apply the Armour Etch to both sides of the lenses by gently dabbing the lenses with the cotton ball. Use the product generously, but do not allow it to drip. Let it sit for 5 minutes on the glasses.

Remove the Armour Etch by rinsing it with water under the sink. Use a cotton ball or similar item to get the chemical. Look over the glasses. Any scratches that were in the coating on the glasses should be gone. The lenses are scratched to the plastic and require replacement if there are still scratches in the glasses.

Tip

  • Clean skin immediately if Armour Etch gets on them. It is a chemical and can irritate skin.
