The rear bumper of your 2001 Toyota Camry plays an important role in your vehicle's safety, because it provides a buffer between you and the impact created were another vehicle to run into the back of you. If you are ever rear-ended and your Camry rear bumper is damaged, you should install a new one promptly. However, before you install a new bumper, you will have to remove the old one.

Step 1

Engage your emergency brake, and jack up your Camry's rear end. Place jack stands under your rear frame, and set the vehicle down on them. Place wheel blocks around the front wheels. Make sure your vehicle is firm and secure before attempting to crawl underneath it.

Step 2

Get beneath your Camry's rear end, and locate the rivets that hold the wheel liner in place. Remove these rivets with a slotted screwdriver.

Step 3

Pop the liner up and off after you have completed removing all the fastening rivets. Slide the liner out to your assistant.

Step 4

Allow your assistant to get a grip on the bumper as you locate the bolts that secure your Camry's bumper to the frame. Break, loosen and remove all the bumper retaining bolts.

Step 5

Help your assistant pull the bumper off, and set it gently on the ground.
