How to Repair the 1998 Chevy Malibu Wiper Motor

If the wiper blades on your 1998 Chevy Malibu go out, or if the motor begins to start making grinding noises, there's a pretty good chance it is time for a new wiper blade motor. The wiper blade motor is a compact box that contains the gears and mechanisms that run your wiper blades in their back and forth motion. If the wiper motor malfunctions or goes out it will have to be replaced.

Things You'll Need

• Wrench set
• Replacement wiper motor
• Rubber mounting bushings

Instructions

1. Disconnect your negative battery cable with your wrench set.

2. Locate your Malibu's wiper motor. It will be mounted on the driver's side on the firewall. It is a semi-cylindrical in shape and is held in place by four retaining bolts which run through the entirety of the motor's body. Remove these two bolts with your wrench. Pull the old rubber mounting bushings off the bolts and discard them

3. Unplug the electrical plug from the rear of the old wiper motor and pull the wiper motor free.

4. Set your replacement motor in place aligning the bolt holes through the replacement pump with the mounting hole on your chassis. Place the new rubber mounting bushings onto the mounting bolts.

5. Insert the mounting bolts, with bushings attached through the mounting holes in the new wiper motor. Tighten the retaining bolts with your wrench set. Replace the negative battery cable.
