1
Cover your work surface with newspaper. To get an even coating of spray adhesive, it's necessary to spray beyond the borders of the paper. If you try to spray just to the edges of the paper, you will get a buildup of adhesive along the edges, which will cause bubbling. Therefore, cover your work surface well so you don't worry about damaging anything.

2
Put on your respirator mask. Inhaling spray adhesive is the same as inhaling glue. It can be damaging to your lungs, so protect yourself.

3
Place your paper on top of the mat board and determine exactly where you want it to be. Mark this spot with a pencil so you know exactly where you will place the paper once you have sprayed it with adhesive. Set the mat board aside.
-
4
Place the paper upside down on the newspaper. Holding the can of adhesive spray 6 inches to 8 inches away from the surface, spray the paper evenly with a back and forth motion until it is completely covered.
-
5
Turn the paper over and carefully place it on the mat board, lining it up with the pencil markings you made earlier. This step must be done quickly before the spray adhesive dries. Spray adhesive has a quick set-up time. Once it sets up, it is very difficult to undo, so make sure you place your paper in the correct position the first time.
