You can get rid of your text message service.

Sometimes, you may receive unwanted text messages or spam messages. If you no longer want to receive text messages, you can disable this feature through your Verizon Wireless representative. This is a free service offered to customers.

Instructions

  1. By Phone

    • 1

      Type *611 on your cell phone keypad and press "Send" to contact Verizon Wireless. You can also call 800-922-0204.

      Inform the representative that you would like to disable text messaging from your phone. Verify your account number, full name and mobile phone number. The representative will put a block on your phone preventing you from sending or receiving text messages.

      Enter *228 in your keypad. This programs and restarts your phone. (You need to enter *228 whenever you make any account changes to your phone.)

      Navigate to the Verizon Wireless website and log in to your account.

      Click "My Services," then the "Add/Remove" feature tab.

      Select "Messages" and "Remove." Click "Next" to confirm your choice.
