Set up a voice mail greeting on an AT&T home phone.

AT&T is one of the world's largest communications companies. They specialize in providing Internet, cable TV and phone services to consumers. AT&T's home phone service comes with an additional voice mail service option. Voice mail is a service which receives messages from missed calls. It is similar to an answering machine except with voice mail the messages are stored on an AT&T server as opposed to a machine in your house. To set up your voice mail service, you need to create a voice mail password and record a greeting.

Instructions

  1. Set Up Voice Mail for AT&T Standard and Voice Mail Plus Service

    • 1

      Dial "* 9 8" from your AT&T home phone.

    • 2

      Press "1 2 3 4" when prompted to enter a password. "1 2 3 4" is only intended to be a temporary password.

    • 3

Follow the voice mail prompts to create a new password. While you do not have to create a new original password, for security purposes, AT&T highly recommends that you do create one. The password must be between 4 and 15 characters long. You will only need to use this password when accessing your AT&T voice mailbox from a phone other than your home phone. Once the password is set up, you'll be taken back to the voice mail system's main menu options.

Select "Personal Options" from the voice mail system's main menu options. Follow the voice mail prompts to record a greeting. With AT&T standard voice mail service, the greeting may be up to two minutes long. With AT&T Voice Mail Plus service, the greeting may be up to four minutes long. If you have AT&T Voice Mail Plus service and you plan to set up additional "extension" mailboxes for different members of your household, the main voice mail greeting should direct callers to press the number that corresponds to each person's mailbox. Once the greeting has been recorded and approved by you, you'll be taken back to the voice mail system's main menu options. If you have AT&T standard voice mail service, there are no additional set up options. Hang up the phone. If you have AT&T Voice Mail Plus service, see the next section for additional set up options.
