How to File a Lawsuit in Colorado
Lawsuits are legal conjunctures that may be filed against a company or individual when any given person feels legally wronged or as if something is owed to them. Filing a lawsuit varies from state to state. In Colorado, you must follow a specific set of procedures to file a lawsuit against an individual or a company.

1
Contact a lawyer that is licensed to practice law in the state of Colorado. You will need a lawyer that knows the ins and outs of the law in that state. If you can afford it, try to find a lawyer that specializes in the particular field which you are filing the lawsuit. For example, if the lawsuit is against an insurance adjuster or company, consider finding a lawyer that specializes in insurance law.

File a complaint against the individual at a courthouse. Make sure that your lawyer is present so that he or she may look over the forms to ensure that everything is in order. Sometimes, a lawsuit is not even necessary because once the complaint is filed, the offender will agree to a settlement. In Colorado, the offender has several days to respond to an out-of-court settlement to avoid a lawsuit.

Wait several days to see how the offender will react. If he or she does not respond to the legal complaint, take your lawyer back to the courthouse and fill out a lawsuit claim. The lawsuit claim will be reviewed by a judge. If the judge finds that the lawsuit is valid, she will call for a preliminary hearing to begin the lawsuit.

Follow through with the lawsuit. These cases can often be stretched out for several months, so be patient. On average, a lawsuit will not even see a verdict. The offender will more often than not agree to a settlement somewhere along the line.
