How to Turn off an SSID

With any wireless Internet connection, network security is a top priority. One simple method to provide security is to turn off the broadcast of the Service Set Identifier (SSID). This is the name of the wireless network that is visible to anyone searching for a wireless connection. Turning off the SSID will make the wireless network invisible, thus increasing security.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the computer, wireless router and modem.

    • 2

Open a Web browser. In the wireless router user guide, there will be a URL for the router's configuration and setup. This URL will vary depending on the brand of router owned. Type the brand-specific URL into the web browser.
