Instructions

    • 1

Slice a small "X" in the top of each chestnut. This prevents the nutshell from exploding in the oven.

    • 2

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Lay the chestnuts in a single layer in your baking pan.

    • 3

Roast the chestnuts in your oven for 30 minutes. When the chestnuts are ready, the cut shells will peel back a bit and the nuts will feel tender to the touch.

    • 4

Remove the chestnuts from the oven and allow them to cool for five to 10 minutes before serving.

Tips & Warnings

  • Peel off the brown nutshell and white skin from the nuts before eating.

  • Add chestnuts to salad, stuffing or fruit salad mixtures.

  • Chestnut shells that aren't cut or pierced before roasting will pop in the oven, similar to popcorn kernels, causing a loud noise.
