How to Make a Metal Car Project
Designing and building a metal car project requires an individual to think outside the box and discover a new way to use discarded or used metal objects. A good body for a metal car project is a small mint or gum tin. A 2- by 3-inch small tin is the perfect size to use for the body of a small metal car. A few tools from the garage and 3/4-inch toy wheels round out the items needed to make the project.
Things You'll Need
- 2- by 3-inch empty mint or gum tin
- Ruler
- Permanent ultra-fine marker
- 4 wheels, 3/4-inch

Instructions

1
Mark the two long sides of the tin for wheel placement. Suggested placement for the marks is 1/2-inch in from each edge. Make sure to center the mark between the top and bottom of the tin so the wheels are on the same plane.
-
2
Drill a hole through each mark. Gently push the bit through the side of the tin to prevent bending.

3
Measure, mark and cut the 1/8-inch dowel into two 3-inch pieces. Use scissors to cut through the dowel on the marked line.
-
4
Insert the cut dowels through the four holes drilled in the small tin to form axles. Make sure the axle turns freely. Remove the dowels and drill larger holes if the axles are hard to turn.
-
5
Place a drop of hot glue on the end of one dowel. Insert a 3/4-inch wheel over the end of the dowel. The drop of glue will hold the wheel in place. Repeat the process for the remaining wheels.
