Properly lighting your garage workshop is a necessary step for safety and quality of work.

Whatever the type of workshop your converted garage may be, a well lit work area is an essential ingredient for safety and doing quality work. If the workshop is used for cars, woodworking or general craftsmanship, the benefits of ample lighting are numerous. The best lit workshops have two levels of lighting: ambient room lighting and direct lighting on the project/work area. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Plug and play easy florescent lighting
  • Electric drill
  • 2-inch steel screws
  • Ladder
  • Work lamp

Instructions

    • 1

      Buy enough florescent lighting for the entire workshop;use at least one 4 foot bar for every 6 square feet. Remove the packaging from the florescent lighting. Set up the ladder underneath the first area where the florescent lighting will go.

      Remove the bulb from the lighting fixture. Take the fixture, drill and two of the 2-inch screws up the ladder. Place the fixture on the ceiling with the bottom flat side against it. Place one screw on the drill bit of the drill.

      Press the screw into the screw hole on one side of the fixture squeeze the trigger to the press and firmly press upward. Stop the drill when the screw is completely immersed in the fixture. Screw the other screw into the the other side of the fixture using the same method.

      Retrieve the florescent bulb. Set the bulb into the fixture on the ceiling and press lightly until it locks into place. Use the attached power cord on the fixture to plug into a wall socket and turn the light on.

      Set up the work lamp directly on or above the work area of the garage workshop. Plug in the power cord and direct the lamp toward any work in progress.
