How to Engage a Lexus 4-Wheel Drive

Many Lexus automobiles are equipped with a four-wheel drive feature. Four-wheel gives your car or truck propulsion with all four wheels and not just the front two or back two. This can prove useful when driving in adverse conditions such as snow or rain, when you are towing something, or just for entertainment in the mud. Engaging four wheel drive can seem daunting if you have never done it before, but it is a relatively straightforward process.

Instructions

1. Locate the four-wheel drive gear shifter. Depending on your Lexus model, the shifter will be near the center console or on the steering column.

2. Decide on an appropriate four wheel drive gear for the conditions and terrain. Four-H (high) is recommended for an abnormal condition such as ice or mud. Use 4L (low) in extreme situations.

3. Put the four-wheel drive in gear while engaging the clutch.

4. Disengage the clutch slowly. There will be a warning on your dashboard light to alert you that the car is in four-wheel drive.

Tips & Warnings

• If you are uncomfortable engaging four-wheel drive while in gear, start in neutral.

• Use caution when driving in inclement weather.
