How to Set Up Parental Blocks in America Online

You want your children to have access to the Internet, but you want to make sure they're safe while using it. AOL has a way to set the preferences for their screen names to keep them out of trouble.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Sign on to AOL.

  2. Step 2

    Click on My AOL on the top toolbar.

  3. Step 3

    Click on Parental Controls from the pop-up menu.

  4. Step 4

    Click on Set Parental Controls when the new screen pops up.

  5. Step 5

    Click the down arrow in the Edit Controls For box, and choose the screen name you want to set controls for.

  6. Step 6

    Click the custom button next to any setting you want to change.

  7. Step 7

    Check the box for each privilege to include, and click Save.

  8. Step 8

    Click OK.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can set the preferences so that your kids can't send or receive any e-mail.
  • You can also make sure they can't go to any X-rated Web sites.
  • You can block access to newsgroups as well.
