HDTV Troubleshooting
High-definition television -- more commonly known by its acronym "HDTV" -- is a relatively recent advancement in viewing technology which presents television programs and movies in clear, vivid detail. In order to experience HDTV, you must be watching a program that is broadcast with an HD signal on an HD-capable television. If you're experiencing problems with your HDTV, there could be any number of causes -- and understanding these is central how quickly and easily you'll be able to resort your HDTV service.

1
Switch your TV to another station to see if the disruption occurs on more than one station. If your local news station seems to be less detailed in definition than usual, for example, you should check other programs that are on at the same time to assess them relatively. If only a single program is experiencing problems, you'll simply have to wait for the respective network to fix its problem.
-
2
Check the connectivity of your HD receiver, if all of your HD channels are experiencing poor definition. It's possible that a cable came loose at some point, resulting in a disruption of the high-definition signal that differentiates HDTV from regular digital transmissions.

3
Turn on other HDTVs if you have them to see if you can replicate the problems on those devices as well. If there's no connectivity problem with your HD receiver, yet your HD still doesn't work properly, check the other TVs in the house for their HD quality. If they display fine, you will need to call a TV repair specialist; the problem lies within your TV. If they're experiencing a similar problem, your HDTV provider may simply be experiencing service downtime.

Call your HDTV service provider if you're experiencing any outage or disruption that is not specific to your device. Although they'll work to fix the problem once they know about it, it's possible they're not aware. By being proactive in your attempts to restore your service, you may not only speed the process for yourself, but also help others in your area who are experiencing the same problem.
