Change the Spark Plug Boots on a Honda Accord

The spark plug boots on a Honda Accord are the long, rubber, insulated connectors that press onto the tops of the spark plugs. The boots deliver electricity from the spark plug wire to the spark plug. The boot is permanently connected to the spark plug wire. So when you replace the boot, you essentially change the entire spark plug wire.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the hood to the Accord's engine bay and set the hood prop rod in place.

    • 2

Remove the bolts from the top of the plastic engine cover with a socket and pull the cover off the engine. Place it off to the side.

    • 3

Locate the spark plug boot on the top of the engine all the way to the right. Pull up on the boot to remove it from the spark plug.

    • 4

Remove the plug wire from the wire looms that hold it against the engine head.

    • 5

Pull the spark plug wire's coil boot off the coil pack by pulling up on it.

    • 6

Press the new coil boot onto the coil pack.

    • 7

Press the spark plug boot onto the top of the spark plug.

    • 8

Press the plug wire into the wire looms to secure it.

    • 9

Duplicate the process with the rest of the spark plug boots on the engine. If you own a V-6, you will have five more boots. If you own a four-cylinder, you have three more boots. Then replace the plastic engine cover.
