How to Make an FTP Link

If you have uploaded a file to an FTP server, or if you have found a file on an FTP server that you need to link to, then you need to know the format of FTP links. The format differs depending on whether the FTP server is anonymous or not. An FTP server allows you to upload and download files using the file transfer protocol (FTP). This is an Internet protocol for data transfer.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the place where you want to share the link; for example, in Notepad, an email message or instant messaging chat window.

    • 2

Type "ftp://" (without the quote marks).

    • 3

Enter the username and password if it is a private FTP server. Type this with a colon separating the two. For example, "user:password." Type an "@" if you entered login information.

    • 4

Type the ftp server address followed by the file name. For example, "ftp.server.com/file-to-download.pdf." You will now have an FTP link. Whenever someone clicks this link it will open in her Internet browser.
