How to Close a Credit Card Account by Mail
If you have a credit card account that you want to close, you have the option of closing the account by mail. Many people choose to close a credit card account by phone or online, however, closing the account by mail has the advantage of allowing you to retain a physical record proving that you submitted the proper documentation.

Call the phone number on the back of your credit card or on your credit card statement and request the mailing address you can send a letter to requesting the closure of your account. Write down the address.

Prepare a letter to the credit card company. The letter should specify your name, address, phone number and account number. In addition, the letter should request closure of the account, and that the credit card issuer should update your credit record to reflect that you requested closure of the account.

Make a copy of the letter.

Go to a post office and send the letter to the address you wrote down in Step #1. You should send the letter certified with a return receipt.

Retain the return receipt from the letter when you receive it in the mail.

Call the credit card company 30 days after sending the letter and verify that the letter was received and the account is closed.
