How to Store an Unused Refrigerator
Refrigerators are a common sight in many kitchens and garages across America and come in every size and color imaginable from a wide variety of manufacturers. While most refrigerators are put into use for storing and chilling food, refrigerators occasionally need to be stored for a period of time without being plugged in or used. Preparing a refrigerator to be stored while not in use takes a few steps but will help ensure proper functioning when the refrigerator is ready to be used again. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Unplug the refrigerator and turn it "Off". Remove any items from the refrigerator.
-
2
Prop open the refrigerator and freezer doors and place towels underneath the doors. Allow any frost or ice to melt on older refrigerators that do not have a defrost setting.
-
-
3
Turn the temperature to "Defrost" or "0" on newer refrigerators that offer this feature. Open the front access panel at the bottom front of the refrigerator and remove the defrost drip pan carefully and pour out any water that accumulates.
-
4
Wipe down the interior of the refrigerator and freezer with a clean cloth and a non-abrasive household cleaner. Dry thoroughly with a clean towel to prevent mold growth.
-
5
Move the refrigerator to the area where it will be stored. Leave it upright during storage. Wind and secure the electrical cord to prevent damage from environmental conditions or animals. It is best to store the refrigerator in a relatively temperate environment that is free of excessive temperature swings.
-
6
Prop the doors open slightly during storage. However, if it is possible that children or animals will have access to the refrigerator, close and secure the doors for safety purposes.
