Directions for a Hand Whistle thumbnail
Hand cooing is another name for hand whistling.

Whistling is the art of making sound by controlling the flow of air through a small hole. Whistling can be achieved by creating a small opening with your lips, with the use of a whistle, or by blowing air through tightly cupped hands. Using hand whistling, you can make a variety of pitches. In order to create cool and unique sounds via hand whistling, you will have to create the proper hand shape. The more that you practice, the better you will become at it.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your hands flat in front of you. Your palms should be upward. Place your left hand on top of your right hand. You hands should be on a slant resembling the look of wings. Bend all four fingers of your left hand between your thumb and your index finger.

    • 2

Snuggle your wrists tightly together. Your thumb fingernails should touch each other. Every part of your hand needs to be close together except for at the hole, which is formed by the arch of the two thumbs. Your index finger needs to cover approximately 1/3 to 1/2 of the hole.

    • 3

Form a kiss on your knuckles with your mouth. Cover only the top half of the hole with your mouth. Keep the bottom half of the hole open for air to escape. Blow air into the hole in your hand with a "toot." Place your tongue on the roof of your mouth and create a "T" sound and now you should be hand whistling.
