1
Decide where the plants will be placed in your garden. Dig plant holes with a shovel in the spots where your plants will be located. Make sure the holes are larger than the plant's root system.
-
2
Cover your entire garden with landscaping fabric by measuring and cutting the landscaping fabric to size. Overlap the fabric by at least 6 inches when one section ends and another begins. Weigh the corners of the landscaping fabric down by placing small stones on them. Mark the plant holes by placing small stones on top of the landscaping fabric in the centers of the plant holes.

Remove the marking stone from the center of a plant hole. Cut an "X" in the landscaping fabric over the plant hole with a sharp utility knife or pair of scissors. Remove a potted plant from its pot and gently separate its roots with your fingers. Set the plant into the plant hole. Place landscaping fabric over the soil around the plant by using the flaps from the "X." Cut the flaps with scissors to allow a 2-inch space around the plant's base. Repeat for the rest of the plants.

Cover the landscaping fabric with mulch. Place much around the plants but do not allow the much to cover the plants around the stems.
