How to Open the Inside of an Admiral Top Loading Washing Machine

Andrew Todd

Admiral appliances are sold by The Home Depot, and manufactured by Maytag. If your Admiral top-loading washing machine requires service, you must first remove the outside case of the unit.

The outer shell is held in place just a few clips and screws that, once removed, allow you to pull the entire cover off of the washing machine. You should always unplug the washing machine before service to avoid injury or further damage to the machine.

  1. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  2. Remove the two screws on the rear portion of the bottom of the control panel.

  3. Pull the control panel forward slightly, then lift the control panel to flip it upside down and off of the washer.

  4. Unplug the lint switch connector, located on the right-side of the top of the washing machine, in the area typically covered by the control panel. To remove, lift the clip on the front with a flat-head screwdriver and pull up on the connector.

  5. Unclip the two clips on top sides securing the body in place. To remove the clips, insert a flat-head screw driver into the top, then pry the clip back to release.

  6. Lift the lid of the washing machine, then grab the front of the lid cavity and tilt the body toward you. Brace the body with your knee if necessary, then lift up and off of the washing machine to expose the machine's interior.
