How to Make a Giant Coin

How to Make a Giant Coin thumbnail
Giant coins can be used as props for a treasure hunt at your next party.

If you are organizing and hosting a party, it is important to decorate your house with festive, on-theme decorations that will spark conversation. For example, you can make giant prop decorations to resemble items related to your party's theme. If your party is related to pirates or treasure hunts, you can make a giant novelty coin out of craft materials. Giant coins will make people laugh and will add excitement to the party.

Instructions

    • 1

Knead a 1-lb. ball of terra cotta clay for five minutes to remove air bubbles.

    • 2

Roll out the clay into a 1-inch thick slab.

    • 3

Turn the opening of a drinking glass upside down onto the clay, and push down. This will cut out a 3- to 4-inch disc.

    • 4

Repeat this process until you have as many coins as you need.

    • 5

Press the sharp end of a clay knife vertically around the entire edge of each coin. This will make the coins look realistic.

    • 6

Press clean, unused scrapbooking lettering and numbering stamps onto the surface of each coin to add words and numbers.

    • 7

Allow the coins to dry completely.

    • 8

Paint the coins with metallic ceramic glaze.

    • 9

Fire the coins in a kiln, then allow them to cool completely before using them as a decoration for your party.
