How to Tape a Colorguard Rifle

Members of the color guard work with members of the marching band to provide a festive attitude at sporting events and to build enthusiasm and support for the team among the fans in attendance. In color guard, dance routines featuring twirling of props are common, including the twirling of replica rifles, giving an appearance similar to a military drill team. Taping a color guard rifle makes the rifle easier on the hands, reducing the risk of injury.

Things You'll Need

• Screwdriver
• Socket wrench
• Strapping tape
• Electrical tape

Instructions

1. Loosen the screw holding the strap onto the rifle.

2. Remove the strap and bolt from the rifle.

3. Wrap a single strip of strapping tape around the butt of the gun, flush against the back edge.

4. Wrap strapping tape around the front of the rifle, so that the edge of the tape is flush with the nose of the gun.

5. Wrap around the body of the rifle, from the neck down to the bolt, using strapping tape.

6. Wrap over the strapping tape with electrical tape the same color as the rifle.

7. Place the strap back on the rifle and secure with the screwdriver.
