The M4R file format is an iPhone ringtone file. In order to upload the file to your device, you must first add it to your iTunes library. iTunes is Apple's media player application that handles the bulk of iPhone file transfer and management. Once you have added the ringtone to the iTunes library, syncing the M4R ringtone to the device is no different than syncing music and movies.
Things You'll Need
Open the iTunes media player application.
Select "File," then "Add to Library." Locate the M4R ringtone file and click "Open." The ringtone is copied to your iTunes library and added to the "Ringtones" section of iTunes.
Connect your iPhone to the computer using the included USB cable.
Select the iPhone within iTunes, click the "Ringtones" tab.
Click "Sync Ringtones." Click "Apply." Click "Sync." The newly added ringtones will upload to your iPhone.
