How to Replace the Window Wiper in a 2004 Toyota Prius Rear Window
The Prius is a hybrid vehicle. The switch between both systems is seamless to the driver and the result is good fuel economy. The batteries that power the electric motor are recharged when the gasoline engine is running, meaning the Prius never has to be plugged in for a recharge as in all-electric vehicles. The 2004 and newer Toyota Prius is a hatchback with a rear wiper to keep road spray off the rear window.

1
Locate the black plastic cover at the pivot point of the rear wiper arm. Grasp the cover and pull it straight up to remove it from the wiper arm. Place the cover aside. Pull the wiper arm straight up from the windshield until it locks into place.

2
Push up on the center of the wiper blade from the bottom until the blade clears the stop at the end of the wiper arm. Slide the blade up and away from the arm to remove it.

3
Pull the metal spine straight out of the wiper blade. Keep the spine and discard the blade.
-
4
Push a new rubber blade, without the metal spine, back on the wiper arm a few inches, making sure the groove on each side of the blade is aligned with the tabs on the arm.
-
5
Insert the metal spine in the new wiper blade, then slide the blade the rest of the way onto the arm until it snaps into place. Push the wiper arm back against the glass. Push the plastic cover into position on the pivot point of the wiper arm until it snaps into place.
