How to Make an Ati to USB Cable

Serial and Parallel ATA data cables are used to connect internal storage devices, such as hard disk drives, to computer motherboards. In the event that you wish to connect a USB storage device to a motherboard, you will need to construct a USB-to-ATA adapter cable. As long as you have the right equipment, you can construct the cable easily.

Things You'll Need

• USB cable extender
• ATA-to-USB adapter
• ATA male-to-male cable

Instructions

1. Connect the USB cable from your USB storage device to one of the ports on your USB cable extender.

2. Insert the USB end of the USB-to-ATA adapter into the other port on the USB cable extender.

3. Connect one end of your ATA male-to-male cable to the ATA port on the USB-to-ATA adapter. The cable is now completely constructed.

4. Test the cable by plugging the male ATA end of the cable into the ATA port on your motherboard and turning your computer on. The computer should recognize the USB device through the ATA port.
