How do I Change a Spark Plug on a Yamaha Road Star?

New spark plugs can improve your Road Star's overall engine efficiency.

Whether your Yamaha Road Star is long overdue for spark plug replacement or you're simply seeking increased fuel efficiency or improved engine response, replacing your spark plugs can turn out to be a rewarding do-it-yourself project. However, it's important that you only attempt to replace the spark plugs when the engine is cool. In other words, attempting to change your spark plugs if you have recently ridden your Road Star is a bad idea as it could lead to burns and other injuries.

Things You'll Need

• Spark plugs
• Ratchet and socket set

Instructions

1. Locate the spark plugs on the engine of your Yamaha Road Star. Grasp the spark plug wires near the base of the spark plug and pull each one off one at a time.

2. Remove the current spark plugs with a ratchet socket set and discard them.

3. Install the spark plugs using your hand to turn them into place as far as you can. Use the ratchet and socket set to give each of the spark plugs a final 1/16 of a turn.

4. Reconnect your spark plug wires by snapping them into place at the base of the spark plugs.
