How to Make Washable Adult Diapers

Cut two segments of fabric measuring about 3 by 3 feet each. Layer them directly on top of one another evenly. Spread out any wrinkles in the fabric, making sure the edges evenly line up. Choose a durable but somewhat stretchy fabric. Stretch denim, which is a blend of cotton and polyester, serves as a comfortable choice.

Open the disposable adult diaper and lay it opened, flatly, on the top layer of fabric. Trace around it with the marker. Trace about 1/8 inch from the edges of the adult diaper. This gives a little excess fabric for constructing your adult diaper.

Cut the outlined shape of the opened adult diaper from both layers of fabric. Pull the layers apart, giving you two diaper-shaped fabric pieces. Lay one of the pieces with the print-side facing downward, in front of you.

Layer the diaper-shaped fabric with about 2 inches of filling. Choose an absorbent filling such as 100-percent cotton fiber. You can also select wool, which is absorbent, comfortable and insulating. Arrange the filling to where the edges of the diaper-shaped fabric are exposed fully.

Squeeze a thin line of glue along the exposed edges of the fabric. Press the second diaper-shaped fabric piece on top of the other with the print facing outward. This encases the filling and creates a basic adult diaper. Let the diaper dry for 30 minutes.

Smooth out the diaper with it still spread out, by pushing on the filling inside of it to move it around. This spreads it out evenly throughout the fabric so it can be worn confidently and comfortably.

Tips & Warnings
Put on the diaper as you would a disposable adult diaper, but secure it in place using large diaper pins. Optionally, you can attach elastic garters to the diaper.
