Gather some white polystyrene balls, about the size of your typical Christmas tree bulb, or about 3 inches in diameter. With a paintbrush and some acrylic paint, decorate the balls in any kind of Christmas design you like. For instance, you can paint a whole ball just plain red, while on another ball you can draw on green and red polka dots. To add more style to the balls, glue on some ribbon and glitter. To fasten the ornaments to the tree, glue on a loop of string at the top of the ball and hang it on a tree branch.

Make a popcorn ball to hang on the tree by first making or purchasing a regular-sized popcorn ball. Poke a hole into the ball using a skewer, long enough for you to reach the middle of the ball. Grab a small-sized candy cane and stick the base of the candy cane into the hole so the loop sticks out from the top of the popcorn ball. Add Christmas designs to the ball using frosting out of a piping bag. Once you place the frosting on the ball, roll the ball gently over a plate of sugar. This will help keep the frosting in place. Hang the ornaments using the loop of the candy cane.

Use a large popsicle craft stick to make a Santa Claus ornament. About an inch away from the very tip of your stick, paint Santa's face using acrylic paints. Proportional to that, paint his red and black suit and his black boots at the very bottom of the stick. Add a red strip of paint above Santa's face for Santa's hat. Add touches such as a gold belt buckle using small toothpicks as makeshift paintbrushes. To create Santa's white beard and the white tip of his hat, glue some stretched-out cotton balls to the appropriate areas. Glue a loop to the back of the stick to hang the ornament on the tree.
