How to Add Rhinestones to Bottle Caps

Rhinestone-embellished bottle caps are useful in a number of different craft projects. Make your own rhinestone-covered bottle caps to use on scrapbook pages, homemade cards, as the center of hair bows or even for jewelry. Attaching rhinestones to a bottle cap is a simple task, but does require some patience as you are working with tiny plastic jewels.

Things You'll Need

  • Bottle caps
  • Paper plate
  • Rhinestones
  • Low-grit sandpaper
  • Tweezers
  • Super glue

Instructions

    • 1

Pour your rhinestones onto a paper plate so they are easy to grab as needed.

    • 2

Lightly sand the tops or insides of the bottle caps you plan to use for your project. Fill the inside of a bottle cap with a rhinestone design for use on homemade cards, hair bows and scrapbooks. Decorate the inside and the outside of the bottle cap for jewelry since both sides of the bottle cap will be visible. Wipe off any excess sanding dust from the bottle cap.

    • 3

Pick up one rhinestone at a time with your tweezers. Grip the rhinestone in the tweezers so the bottom of the rhinestone, or the flat mirrored surface, is facing out from the tweezers.

    • 4

Apply a small dot of super glue to the bottom of the rhinestone. Immediately place the rhinestone, glue side down, onto the bottle cap. Hold the rhinestone there for 30 seconds to allow the glue to begin setting. Adhere the rest of the rhinestones to the bottle cap in the same manner.

    • 5

Use your embellished bottle caps for a craft project. Adhere bottle caps to paper crafts with self-adhesive foam dots. Adhere bottle caps to the center of hair bows with a hot glue gun. If you are making jewelry out of the bottle caps, punch a small hole in the edge of the bottle cap with a small nail and hammer. Slide a jump ring through the hole so you can attach it to a chain for a necklace or hooks for earrings.

Tips & Warnings

  • Work with super glue in a well-ventilated area as the fumes are strong.

  • Avoid getting super glue on your skin. Use nail polish remover and a cotton swab to remove super glue from skin.
