How to Contact a Celebrity About a Charity

Whether you're contacting celebrities about charities they already support or alerting them to new causes, the first thing you need to do is get their attention. Celebrities seem increasingly inclined to contribute to charities and their involvement can bring more awareness to a cause. While fans can interact directly with celebrities through social media, with so many vying for attention, getting stars to take notice is not easy. And, if a celebrity has not embraced social media, contacting them becomes even more difficult. Knowing your options and utilizing them to their fullest can mean the difference between acknowledgment and getting lost in the crowd.

1 Contacting the Celebrity

2 Tweet

Tweet to the celebrity about the charity. Include a website or description of the charity and make it clear if you want them to respond to you or retweet information about the charity. You may have to tweet the celebrity multiple times over several weeks before you get a response.

3 Are to the celebrity

Including hashtags about subjects that are relevant to the celebrity, like their current projects, may get you noticed sooner.

Post messages on the celebrity’s official Facebook page. Some celebrities have official Facebook pages; contacting them there in conjunction with Twitter increases your chances of contacting them. Sometimes these pagers do not have walls to post a message, but they still may provide contact information.

Visit the celebrity’s official website. While less common, celebrity websites or sites for charities the celebrity already officially supports sometimes offer contact information.

Send information to the celebrity’s fan mail address. Celebrities often have addresses devoted to fan mail. Sending a letter allows you to write a reasoned and meaningful message about the charity. However, celebrities receive a lot of fan mail and it can take them months or even years to respond, so you may have to wait. Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you wish to receive return correspondence.

There are many fan mail sites, but FanMail.biz has user feedback on whether the address actually works.

Find the celebrity’s contact information through IMDbPro and send information to their representatives. Since IMDbPro is specifically for use by the entertainment industry, users can click the “Contact Info” link on each celebrity’s page to find information on their agents or managers. IMDbPro is a paid service and costs $15.95 per month as of 2011.
