Close the tank's valve. Just because the tank is not working does not mean the tank is completely out of propane. Many tanks have a turnable hand valve on the spigot where the propane is dispensed. Turn the valve until it is tight and completely off. Using the crescent wrench remove the tank from the hose that connects to your device. Check the valve again to make sure it is completely off before transporting. If you there is a rotten egg smell, it is probably because the tank is leaking propane. Check the valve seal and tighten until the tank is no longer leaking propane.

Take your tank to a refill station. Make sure when transporting the tank that is is secured in an upright position. Remember, tanks are pressurized and sometimes contain flammable materials, so keeping the tank secure from accidental bumps and punctures is important. Once at the bulk tank facility, ask the attendant to help you fill the tank. Most states have laws that do not allow you to fill from bulk tanks without proper certification. Once the tank is full, resecure the tank in the vehicle, taking the same safety steps you observed when transporting to the facility.
