How to Reinstall "The Sims"

"The Sims" is a life simulation game released by Electronic Arts in 2000. In the game, you control one or more people, called "Sims," in their daily lives. You can customize their looks and build and customize the homes in which they live. If you experience problems with game crashes or other serious errors, you might need to reinstall it. Reinstall the game with a basic approach or, if that does not resolve your problem, remove the game more thoroughly with a manual reinstallation.

Instructions

  1. Basic Reinstall

    • 1

Put "The Sims" CD in your disc drive. This should open "The Sims" launch window. If the window does not open, click the "Start" button in the lower left of your screen, then "Computer" (or "My Computer" for Windows XP), then double-click the CD drive to open the launch window.

    • 2

Select the "Uninstall" option from the launch window. Follow the on-screen prompts to uninstall the game from your system. Your computer might ask if you want to uninstall your Sims as well. This is up to you; leaving that data on your computer should not make any difference.

    • 3

Restart your computer after the uninstallation completes.

    • 4

Open "The Sims" launch window again, and this time select the "Install" option. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the game back onto your computer.
