Self-stick vinyl tile is a popular product for a concrete floor, but as with most flooring it eventually wears and must be replaced. If you're planning an installing carpet or hardwood on your concrete, the tiles must be removed to meet the substrate preparation requirements. Things You'll Need

  • Blow dryer
  • Putty knife

Instructions

      Heat the first tile, using a blow dryer held three inches from the tile at a 45 degree angle and moving the heat evenly across the surface of the tile for three to five minutes.

      Pry the edge of the tile up by lifting the edge of the tile with a putty knife until it has separated from the floor.

      Slide the putty knife beneath the tile and pop the tile off the floor, using a twisting motion of the wrist to release the adhesive from the concrete.

      Repeat the process for the remaining tiles until the entire floor has been cleared.

  • Knee pads are helpful in completing this chore.

  • Place tiles in a box or bag as you remove them to prevent slipping accidents.
