Instructions

    • 1

Remember, a varial kickflip is basically a pop shove-it (see related eHows) with a little more ankle action, so set up like you would for a pop shove-it.

    • 2

Hit the tail as you would for a pop shove-it, and as the board starts to snap up, flick your front foot just like a kickflip. That action will cause the board to flip while the shove-it action from your back foot will make the board turn 180 degrees below you. Don't flick the flip too hard or it will flip away from you like a crazy 4th of July firework. Let the whole trick have a "rolling" motion to it.

    • 3

Move your feet out of the way as the board does its thing below you. Let the board smack you in the feet as you catch it at the height of the trick.

    • 4

Use your feet and hips to guide the board back straight as you drop back down.

Tips & Warnings

  • The key is thinking about it just like a pop shove-it. The flip will work itself out naturally.

i can kick flip pretty high every time. but when i try to varial, i get it to turn 180, but it only flips half way. i land on the underside of the deck. i try to flip it harder, but still just land on the under side. should i put my front foot in a different place? i put it behind the front bolts, at a little more than a 45 degree angle. it works great for my kickflips but apparently not for varials. please help.

VRIAL KICKFLIP- I taught myself this trick, but this guide is pretty cool too. The way I did it, was let my toes hang off the backside of the board, on the farside. Then I would place my big toe and the toe next to it on the first row of bolts closest to me in the front. Then I would do the pop-push-back motion, as well as flick my toes up at an angle. Then I bend my knees, catch the board, and continued the first varial to bank I ever did. =D
